Job Description

The Manager – SHD Office will be part of a small, core team which will assist in building out the School over the coming years. The core responsibility of this position will be to assist in the development and implementation of the School’s strategy.

 

The incumbent will support governance, strategic and operational planning, the management of resources (people, physical and financial), development and delivery of the academic courses, external engagement, relationship building with key partners and collaborators, and knowledge management and outreach. They will act as one of the primary links between SHD and various programmes, labs, and other schools at IIHS. Along with individual faculty and other team members, they will need to ensure coordination and timely delivery of outcomes.

 

Activities and Tasks

Responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, the following:

 

Strategy and Planning:

  • Supporting operational, intellectual and strategic planning, governance, budgeting, resource management and facultymanagement;
  • Coordinating various initiatives of the School, including overall programme management as well as budgeting;
  • Planning, overseeing and implementing school-wide systems and processes for activities as needed;

Person Specification

The applicant should have:

  • A PhD in a relevant field including but not limited to Planning/ Public Policy/ Development Studies/ Social Work, or across the Social Sciences and Humanities, or a related field;
  • Candidates with Master’s degrees and significant experience in academic strategy and administration, or in research in the themes of the School, will be considered on a case-by-case basis;
  • At least 2 years of prior experience in academic administration (ideally), or management/ research experience in the urban or development sector;
  • Experience of working in inter-disciplinary teams, preferably across practice and research;
  • Strong writing, analytical and numerical skills;

Job Description

The Lead – Outreach & Marketing will manage the outreach and marketing process for IIHS’ growing portfolio of academic programmes. The incumbent will be responsible for developing and implementing outreach activities for the academic programmes and ensuring that the applications target for all courses are met, in terms of numbers, quality of students, and student intake that meets institutional goals of inclusiveness and interdisciplinarity, while ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and policies. S/he will have to collaborate with other Functions and Programmes in IIHS to ensure that the outreach process is efficient and effective, and also maintain relationships with various academic institutions and organizations, industry partners, and other stakeholders to promote IIHS and attract qualified applicants.

  • Identifying relevant international and domestic research funding opportunities for the Schools at IIHS;

Sustainable Habitat and Climate Action Specialist – Practice Programme

About the Practice Programme at IIHS

The IIHS Practice Programme aims to demonstrate capacity for innovation and change in order to influence and enable urban transformation and translate learning from practice into policy as well as research and teaching-learning material. It provides strategic/ policy advisory, implementation support and knowledge management services to national and state governments, public, parastatal and municipal agencies, international development agencies, as well as private firms at the interface of human settlements and urbanisation. This work spans a range of areas, including urban governance, water and sanitation, municipal finance, land management, urban infrastructure and services, as well as climate change and risk and resilience.

 

About the School of Systems and Infrastructure

The School of Systems and Infrastructure (SSI) at IIHS aims at urban transformation with the intention of improving equity and environment outcomes for Indian cities, and its citizens. The School is concerned with key systems that govern the urban such as land and planning, water and sanitation, energy, housing, transportation, IT, and ITES. Across these domains the School aims at addressing cross-cutting themes – including governance and services, inclusion and equity, safety, and financing – and at different geographic scales. SSI will bring together an eclectic set of practitioners, researchers and educators who will work across practice, research, and learning, and seek to redefine practices and knowledge in these domains.

 

Job Description

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Sustainable Habitat and Climate Action Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for conceptualising climate-aligned solutions for the built environment, including those linked to the neighborhood/ local community scale, by integrating multiple sources of knowledge such as climate science, environmental studies, building science, and engineering principles.

 

We expect you to be well versed in setting up transformative and transdisciplinary processes to imagine and deliver resilient and sustainable solutions. You will, for example, play a key role in conceptualising and implementing energy-centric, climate-aligned solutions at the building and neighbourhood-scale. In addition, we expect you to conceptualise climate-aligned solutions linked to various environmental services (e.g. water, sanitation, waste water, solid waste and drainage) including those linked to natural systems. You will also play a key role at the interface of environmental impact, buildings, and sustainable practices across multiple projects at IIHS.

 

Activities and Tasks

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

Conceptualising Sustainable Habitat Solutions:

  • Conducting comprehensive research and analysis of emerging evidence from multiple disciplines such as climate science, environmental studies, building science and engineering to identify various sustainable habitat options and barriers to, and enablers for, their widespread, sustained uptake;
  • Creating awareness on, and generating demand for, specific solutions at the building and neighbourhood-scale; these solutions would include those linked to energy-efficiency, water conservation, waste management, decentralised renewable energy systems, and nature-based and nature-oriented interventions, and, overall, to greenhouse gas emissions reduction and enhancement of local resilience to climate shocks and stresses;

Job Description

IIHS is looking for a teaching associate to build a portfolio of short-term and long-term courses and knowledge products in Municipal Finance in India for middle and senior governmental officials and students and sector professionals.

Activities and Tasks

Detailed responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, the following broad areas:

  • Working closely with established experts in Municipal Finance to create online learning modules and courses on various aspects of the subject;

About the IoT (Internet of Things) Lab

IIHS’ 54-acre mother campus in Kengeri, Bengaluru is designed to be an intelligent campus, digitally enabled to ease data collection, flow and storage of data for learning, research, interaction, collaboration and communication. The university buildings and all the spaces (indoors and outdoors) are monitored for environmental data, and comfort is optimised through a close looped control system. Close looped control systems shall be deployed extensively across the campus for controlling temperature, humidity, light, air quality, power consumption, irrigation for the fields, ordering supplies when a set limit is reached, perimeter sensing, CCTV cameras for surveillance, set up of rooms to suit personal preferences etc. An experimental building has been designed and built to test some of the key features in building material and site management for future deployment.

 

The IoT Lab anchors the IoT technology programme at IIHS. As IoT systems are implemented across the IIHS Bengaluru City Campus (BCC) buildings and the Kengeri campus, along with communication protocols for a real-time sustainability website/dashboard, the IoT Lab calibrates and tests different systems. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Lead – Finance & Accounts will be responsible for overseeing a range of financial, accounting and reporting activities at IIHS. The Lead – Finance & Accounts will report to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at IIHS and will be required to collaborate effectively with a diverse group of internal teams and external individuals/organizations, and students.

This role is an extraordinary opportunity for a mature leader with strong accounting and finance experience, ideally beginning in accounting and audit, followed by experience in gathering, evaluating, presenting and reporting financial information to executive teams and external stakeholders.  The candidate will ideally have experience in a complex nonprofit that has multiple programmes.

 

Other qualifications required for this role, include:

  • A minimum qualification – CA (Chartered Accountant) with at least 10 years of work experience;
  • Hands-on experience in coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments;
  • Strong financial control and review skills characterised by unflinching rigour and attention to detail;
  • A track record in grants management; experience in compliance and reporting of government, corporate and foundation grants is essential;
  • Technological savvy with experience in selecting and overseeing software installations and managing relationships with software vendors; advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software;
  • Commitment to recruiting, mentoring, training, and retaining a diverse team, with a foresight and ability to delegate accordingly;

Job Description

The position will be part of the People Function (Human Resources) team at IIHS and will support core HR operations. The incumbent will be involved in running a range of activities and processes related to compensation and benefits, onboarding and separation, data processing and maintenance, regulatory compliance, and general staff relations.

The recruitment specialist will be part of IIHS’s Recruitment team and will help in managing end to end recruitment operations. Activities and Tasks

Responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Supporting talent acquisition efforts by:

Job Description

The Senior Associate – HSE Operations will play a pivotal role in IIHS’ Environment, Health and Safety management. The incumbent will be expected to help define and implement a robust HSE framework for the Institution, keeping in mind legal compliance and evolving institutional needs. Training IIHS staff, students, and other stakeholders on HSE aspects, conducting regular checks and audits, and ensuring HSE awareness and compliance across the Institutional will be a part of the role.

 

Activities and Tasks

  • Identifying and supporting the implementation of an EHS legal framework applicable to the operations of the Institution and advising the top management on these matters from time to time;

The position will be part of the Administration function at IIHS, and will be responsible for driving and supporting travel and admin-related activities and processes to address institutional needs.
