The capacity building programme on affordable housing aimed to develop and enhance the planning and practice capability of public sector practitioners involved in policy-making, planning, provision and management of housing in urban areas.

The objective of the programme was to provide an overview of affordable housing by familiarising participants with different aspects of affordable housing; the players involved; issues of land, finance, infrastructure and legal regimes; and relevant policies, institutions and programmes at national and state levels.

The programme also aimed to help participants conceive and plan affordable housing projects. It introduced them to a range of financial schemes and instruments, technologies and building components, and project management and post-implementation strategies, among other topics.

The short course on Application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning systems (GPS) for ULB Services was designed to introduce ULB officials to the technology of GIS and GPS and their potential applications to enhance services rendered by them.

The course aimed to provide an overview of e-governance and how GIS plays an integral part in it; introduce the applications developed by Municipal Reforms Cell (MRC) and explain the role of the participants in making the implementation effective; train ULB officers in the technology of GIS and GPS, for application of ULB services like property tax collection and other public works; and sensitise them to the work being done at the Urban Mapping Cell and the maps available to city officials.
