Job Description
IIHS is seeking a dynamic and proactive project engineer (MEP) with 2 to 6 years of experience to join our vibrant team. This full-time position in Bengaluru offers an exciting opportunity to be part of the University’s development team. S/he will work closely with other IIHS teams, particularly the IoT and Sustainable Energy Labs, and Operations teams, and be involved in a variety of strategies for innovation and improvement.
As a project engineer, you will play a key role in managing all Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) work related with the IIHS Kengeri campus. The responsibilities will extend to the operation and maintenance of MEP, water systems, DEWATS (Decentralized Wastewater Treatment Systems), control systems, and other facilities at various IIHS locations, including three new offices and a guesthouse in Bengaluru. Assist in the planning, scheduling, forecasting, delivery, and management of all related activities to ensure project quality, timeliness, and compliance.

Activities and Tasks
The responsibilities for this role are diverse and dynamic, including but not limited to:
- Taking charge of all Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) planning, execution, operations, and maintenance;
- Translating design intent and requirement from stakeholders into tangible deliverables, collaborating with the stakeholders and consultants to draw up specifications, schematics, drawings etc.;.
- Ensuring MEP work is executed and coordinated with associated civil work according to approved drawings, within the project timeline and budget, once relevant approvals are received;
- Liaising with local authorities to secure approvals for MEP service drawings and connections;
- Coordinating with vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure work aligns with design intent and specifications;
- Overseeing the installation, inspection, and testing of all MEP equipment and fittings to meet specifications and consultant requirements;
- Anticipating site material needs, coordinating with procurement engineers/project managers for timely order placements;
- Assisting in supplier-site coordination for handling, storage, installation, and commissioning;
- Verifying measurement accuracy for billing and approving final billings;
- Organizing and participating in site meetings, reviewing inspection schedules, adhering to Health Safety Security Environment (HSSE) checklists, and witnessing system commissioning tests with consultants;
- Implementing site HSSE policies, preparing Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and ensuring compliance with the Permit to Work (PTW) system and all health, safety, and legal requirements;
- Preparing status reports and regularly monitoring budgets, contractors, and schedules;
- Maintaining accurate records and an electronic database of all project elements;
- Conducting daily project monitoring and regular progress reporting, identifying potential risks and constraints, and developing mitigation strategies;
- Supporting the Project Manager in addressing project contractual deliverables promptly;
- Coordinating with other project personnel to ensure deadlines, procedures, and project requirements are met;
- Providing support to other IIHS activities, including academics, research, training, practice, operations, and others;
- Participating in all institution-building activities at IIHS, carrying out tasks as assigned, and traveling within the country for IIHS work as needed.

Structure and Reporting
The project engineer (MEP) will report to the Campus Development Head or the Senior Project Manager at the IIHS Kengeri campus and will need to collaborate effectively with a diverse group of internal teams and external individuals/organisations.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate should have:
- A professional degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering;
- 2-6 years of relevant experience; prior experience as a project engineer on large scale building and infrastructure projects will be an advantage;
- Practical knowledge of mechanical / electrical / plumbing engineering principles, practices and methods; environmental regulations; engineering project management methods; workplace safety; budgeting; employee supervision and personnel management;
- Experience in the field of engineering, procurement and operations;
- General understanding of building codes, mechanical codes, electrical codes and plumbing codes as they relate to the construction of project;
- Effective verbal and written communication skills;
- Flexibility and the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment;
- Competency in handling simultaneously occurring tasks and smaller projects;
- Excellent organisational and team working skills; the ability and willingness to work in close collaboration with other teams to meet common institutional goals.
