Research Events

Research events at the Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) bring together scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and students to engage with emerging questions shaping cities and urban transitions. Through conferences, workshops, and lecture series, these events create spaces for dialogue, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas across disciplines and geographies, with a strong focus on the Global South.

These platforms enable both established and early-career scholars to present new research, engage with critical debates, and contribute to conversations that connect theory, research, and practice.

IIHS Early Career Researcher Workshop

Early Career Researchers (ECRs) broadly defined from 0-5 years post-PhD, often lack structured support to enable a transition from being PhD scholars to junior faculty or researchers. Most fresh PhDs are thrust into academic, applied research and policy positions and left to navigate this transition on their own. Some ease their way into faculty roles via postdoctoral fellowships and similar shorter positions, and effectively learn as best as they can on the job.

PhD Workshop

An interdisciplinary workshop for doctoral scholars to present research, engage with leading academics and practitioners, and explore new directions in
urban scholarship.

Urban ARC

Global South.

Publics@IIHS

A lecture series where leading scholars and practitioners present new ideas and research on cities, creating an open platform for dialogue on
urban issues.
