Tanmay Shukla is a media and communications practitioner who works on audio-visual media production, documentary filmmaking, and short films. Tanmay completed his BA in Economics from the University of Mumbai in 2018 and he finished his MA in Media and Cultural Studies from Tata Institute of Social Science, Mumbai in 2022. Tanmay is interested in film studies and his focus area is popular Hindi cinema and web series, broadly on cinematic representation of culture and identity and its influence on popular culture and society.


At IIHS, Tanmay is supporting the media, communications, and documentation part of the Urban Fellows Programme. He is part of the Academic Office team and works closely with the Media Lab and Communications & Design team. Tanmay is experienced in social media marketing, social behaviour change communications (SBCC) and film criticism. Prior to IIHS, Tanmay has worked as a Knowledge Management & Communications YP at DAY-NRLM, Ministry of Rural Development in New Delhi and anchored audio-visual productions and social media for the Nayi Chetna: Pahal Badlaav Ki, a nationwide awareness campaign on eliminating gender- based discrimination, launched in November, 2022. Tanmay started his professional career in the advertising industry as a copywriter at Halcyon Media in Mumbai.
