Kiran D A earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from VTU, Belagavi, and a master’s degree in environmental engineering from UVCE, Bengaluru. Currently, he is pursuing a PhD in solid waste management from VTU, Belagavi. Kiran has contributed to various research projects sponsored by the Government of India, serving as a junior research fellow at the Civil Engineering Department of Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering in Bengaluru and as a research assistant at the Siddaganga Institute of Technology in Tumakuru.

He has presented five scientific papers at conferences and published 19 research papers in national and international journals. Kiran has also completed several courses and training programmes, including four MOOCs on ‘Sanitation, Water, and Solid Waste for Development’ offered by EAWAG, EPFL and WHO. Recognising his significant contributions to waste management, he received the Swachhta Saarthi Fellowship 2021 from the Government of India as part of the Waste to Wealth Mission. Additionally, he holds the status of an associate member in the Institution of Engineers (India). His research focuses on solid waste management, waste-to-energy conversions, and groundwater and surface water pollution.

At IIHS, Kiran is currently working on solid waste management and environmental services.
