Namita K N works as an External Consultant in the Director’s Office. Her primary skills comprise qualitative research, policy analysis, literature reviews, academic writing and development communications.
Namita has an MSc in Environment and Sustainable Development from the Bartlett Development Planning Unit at University College London. She also has a background in economics and public policy. She has over two years of experience in non-profit and industrial sectors where she honed her skills in qualitative research, research writing, literature reviews, and policy analysis.
Namita is interested in the themes of sustainable urbanisation, public spaces, urban environment, water and sanitation, right to the city, and urban governance and participatory processes. She approaches these themes through the lenses of intersectionality, social justice, and urban political ecology.
In her previous role as Intervention Research Lead at The Collective Consciousness, Namita contributed significantly to projects focusing on adolescent girls’ menstrual health education across multiple states. She played a crucial role in curriculum development, pilot programme implementation, and fundraising events.
As a Research Fellow at the Sir M.V. Economic Research Centre, Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI), Namita engaged in extensive qualitative and analytical research. She produced research papers and policy briefs, mentored interns, and conducted capacity-building sessions.
During her MSc program, Namita contributed to an action-research project in collaboration with OVERDUE Just Sanitation focusing on the invisible and unpaid sanitation work of domestic women in Tanzania and Senegal. This research resulted in a research-based advocacy campaign titled ‘Work not duty.’
Namita’s MSc dissertation, ‘Appropriating public spaces to preserve them: exploring claims to the Right to the City in Bengaluru, India,’ was recognised by the Board of Examiners as ‘outstanding.’ The research highlighted the role of participatory processes in preserving public spaces and thereby claiming the right to the city.
She has contributed significantly to the institutional website redesign process at IIHS and taught in the Practica module of the UFP for the 2023–2024 batch.
