As Chief People Officer at IIHS, Vidya Jindal heads the People Function and is responsible for all institutional approaches, practices and policies that impact the most valued asset of IIHS, its pool of highly talented staff and faculty. Vidya has experience in being part of senior leadership teams that define and steer organisational strategy and growth. She enjoys providing Change Leadership to HR operations, setting up/re-designing HR and Learning systems in line with changing strategic needs, and the challenge of growing the People base of IIHS without diluting its key institutional values and culture.
A graduate from Asia’s premier B-School, the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and, prior to that, a Gold Medallist in English Literature from Madras University, Vidya has a strong background and interest in Strategic HR, Organisational Development, Leadership and Competency Development, Coaching, and Emotional Intelligence. She also has rich experience in operational roles, a first-hand top management perspective of business issues, and in-depth experience in defining and implementing OD, HR & Learning strategy at the organisational level.
In a corporate career spanning over two decades, Vidya has played varied roles across multiple functions. Starting with operational roles in software consulting and project management, Vidya over the years made career choices based on her deep-rooted interest in people and people development, taking on roles such as Head of Learning, Head of HR & OD, and Leadership Coach. In her last corporate position as President – HR & OD at Tata Interactive Systems, Vidya was in charge of the HR and Learning functions across the global organisation. She was also a member of the Ex Com, a core group of leaders who, along with the CEO, constituted the Top Management team of Tata Interactive.
Alongside her corporate career, Vidya has also enjoyed being involved in teaching and training whenever the opportunity arose. She taught for two years (2002-04) at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, where she anchored the Managerial Communication course for the flagship Post Graduate Programme (PGP) as well as the specialised Post Graduate Programme in Software Management (PGSM) for working professionals. In recent years she has taught at the Indian Institute of Management at Udaipur (2014-15), both on the flagship Post Graduate Programme (PGP) and the specialised Post Graduate Programme in Supply Chain Management (PGPX).
Vidya is a certified Assessor for the Tata Business Excellence Model (an adaptation of the Malcolm Balridge Model), and has been involved in the assessment of multiple companies within the Tata group. She is also a certified Coach (accredited by the International Coach Federation) and has an additional accreditation in Emotional Intelligence to administer, interpret and coach clients globally on the EQ-i 2.0 and EQ360 assessments. In addition to using informal coaching techniques in her various leadership roles over the years, she has engaged in formal coaching programmes for middle and senior level executives in corporates to help achieve performance enhancement, leadership development, and business results.
