Nasser Munjee

Nasser Munjee’s career began with the creation of Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC), India’s first mortgage company, in which he rose to become Executive Director. He then helped create the Infrastructure Development Finance Company (IDFC) a partnership between the Government of India and domestic and international finance institutions, as its Managing Director and CEO. He has been a founding member of the IIHS Board since 2008.

 

Munjee has an active interest in academic and research institutions. He is Chairman of the Goa Institute of Management; a member of the Advisory Board of the South Asian Centre at the London School of Economics; a member of the Schulich School of Management, University of Toronto; and Trustee, Urban Development Research Institute, Bombay.

He is one of India’s leading independent Directors. He sits on the Boards of ten Indian public limited companies, including ABB India Ltd, HDFC Ltd., Tata Motors Ltd., Tata Chemicals Ltd., Cummins India Ltd. and Ambuja Cements Ltd. (Holcim Group). He also sits on many international Boards including: Jaguar Land Rover Plc, UK; Tata Chemicals, North America; and Tata Chemicals European Holdings.

 

Nasser Munjee has consulted across the world on housing finance with the Asian Development Bank, World Bank, UNCDF (United Nations Capital Development Fund) and UN (Habitat) including in Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Ethiopia, Thailand and Indonesia. He was also on the executive committee of the International Union of Housing Finance Institutions and editor of its flagship journal Housing Finance International, for five years.

 

Munjee is a member of the Executive Committee of the World Islamic Economic Forum and on the Advisory Board of the City of London. He is also the Chair of several non-profits including the Aga Khan Foundation (India), Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (India), and the Muniwarabad Charitable Trust; and is Life Trustee of the Welham Boys’ School, Dehradun.
Nasser Munjee has a BSc and MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics, and was also educated at the University of Chicago.
