Abstract
Ashokan Nambiar’s Print and the Novel in 19th Century Kerala: Reconsidering Colonial Modernity is a significant and engaging contribution to the study of Kerala’s modernity. Building on earlier scholarship, particularly Udaya Kumar’s Writing the First Person: Literature, History and Autobiography in Modern Kerala (2016), Nambiar reopens the debate on how modernity unfolded in the region by focusing on the intertwined histories of print culture and the novel form.
