Subha Muthu Kumar works with the IIHS Urban Practitioners’ Programme to integrate the mission and vision of government policies, stakeholder requirements and grassroot level problems into a single platform and help incubate, innovate and integrate ideas to develop value added services through science and technological means in the Public Health and Sanitation sector.
Prior to joining IIHS, Subha was Senior Faculty and Head i/c in the Environment Management Department at Engineering Staff College of India, Hyderabad. She possesses over 17 years of experience in Teaching, Capacity Building, Research and consultancy projects. Her areas of expertise are Water Supply and Sanitation, Faecal sludge Management, Waste Water Treatment, Waste Management, Pollution monitoring and modelling, EIA and Environmental Data Management.
Subha is a certified Lead Auditor for ISO QMS 9001, ISO EMS 14001 and OHSAS 18001 and an Internal auditor for NABL ISO 17025 Laboratory Management System. She is also an empanelled national expert and resource person for MoEF&CC, GoI for Waste Management rules 2016 and a Certified Master trainer by MoHUA, GoI for the Swachh Bharat Mission. She had trained more than 3000 engineers from various ULBs across different states of India under AMRUT, SBM, SMART CITIES and Housing for All urban flagship missions. She was instrumental in getting NABL laboratory accreditation of Atomic Mineral Directorate-Chemical testing laboratory, Department of Atomic Energy, GoI and served as liaison between various ministries and government departments for project development and institution building. Subha has undergone professional training in AERMOD – Air pollution dispersion modelling and BHUVAN mapping. Her ongoing research project focuses on pollution abatement of lakes using Phytoremediation techniques.
