Srinithi Sudhakar has a Master’s in Development Studies from SOAS, University of London. Her research interests include studying the impact and implementation of infrastructure development, sanitation and social protection government schemes. Her dissertation study analysed the effectiveness of social protection schemes and their impact on poverty reduction by comparing the potential benefits and shortfalls of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme (MGNREGA) with the Bolsa Familia cash transfer programme in Brazil. The thesis attempted to bring to attention the role played by factors such as social inclusion, political stability and targeting in reducing poverty and achieving long-term sustainability of any project.
At IIHS, she works with the Tamil Nadu Sanitation and Support Program (TNUSSP) which supports the Government of Tamil Nadu in making improvements along the entire urban sanitation value chain. As part of TNUSSP, Srinithi is involved in deliverables relating to governance and enabling frameworks, project management and monitoring, and learning and evaluation components. Her work involves data analysis, literature reviews, assistance with report writing, and other required research and documentation.
Prior to this, she worked with CDM Smith India Private Limited, where she prepared Social Impact Assessment studies and Feasibility Reports for government infrastructure development projects. She has also interned at Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) and volunteered with the Disaster Management Unit, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
