Informal Recycling Units in Solid Waste Management System

Abstract
In almost all major cities of India, informal waste economy has been compensating for inadequate solid waste management systems. This case looks at the scale of operations of informal recycling units particularly those in Nayandahalli- which is the heart of informal waste economy in Bangalore, the status of employment they generate, risks they are exposed to, quantity of waste they send for recycling, and the contribution they make in terms of keeping the city clean.
