Information and communication technologies (ICT) have transformed library services, evident in the automation of housekeeping operations in librarianship. While the fundamental principle of user service remains unchanged, technological advancements have revolutionized the processing and dissemination of information. With over 450 million social media users in India as of 2024, the country boasts the highest number of Facebook users globally. Many libraries aspire to leverage social media platforms to effectively deliver and communicate their services, yet obtaining approval from parent institutions remains a major hurdle. This study seeks to analyze this issue through the lens of a comprehensive social media strategy. Through an examination of Indian literature on social media and libraries, the research reveals a user base that is both aware of and actively using social media, with expectations of communication from their libraries. However, these demands are often inadequately met. The study provides a comprehensive overview of various factors influencing the use of social media in libraries and offers insights into developing effective strategies.
