The research programme at IIHS is engaged in building an interdisciplinary faculty with strong roots in academia as well as practice. We seek to create an environment that links intellectual inquiry and contextual innovation both globally and locally. We encourage propositive practice-oriented research as well as theory building through retrospective and comparative analysis.
The IIHS core team and a growing global network of partners and research affiliates are working on a number of projects on urban law and governance, urban sustainability, climate change and resilience planning, informality, regional planning and land use among other themes – an agenda that will evolve and expand over time.
Our research initiatives are attempting to test and refine models for sustained collaboration across disciplines and professions. The programme has a strong emphasis on knowledge co-creation in the global South and provides the opportunity for reflective practitioners and researchers to engage with contemporary challenges.
