Ganesh Kumar has an MPhil in Social Work from Bharathidasan University, Trichy, as well as a Master’s in Journalism and Communication. He is a development professional with 11 years of experience working in the fields of adolescents, health, HIV, women empowerment, poverty reduction, microfinance, e-governance and skill development across India.


He has worked with the TN state government and the central government, NGOs, and private and international agencies on various assignments. He has worked as a counsellor at an integrated counselling and testing center for HIV in a Govt. primary health center. He has also worked on sensitising doctors, nurses and other paramedical staff and created an HIV-friendly environment in many hospitals. In a World Bank supported Tamil Nadu empowerment and poverty reduction project, he worked with various communities, particularly women, practicing community led development programmes and social audits, implementing community based interventions, developing communication materials with the communities, creating cadre of interpersonal communicators, producing films on success stories, and preparing training materials and supplementary tools.


At IIHS, as Consultant – Practice and Specialist for Behavior Change Communication and Social Development for the Tamil Nadu Urban Sanitation Support Programme (TNUSSP), he works on developing BCC strategy, producing information education and communication, BCC materials, films and implementing programmes in the model towns.  He is interested in travelling, interacting with different stakeholders, interfacing with the government, and engaging with communities.
