Asma has a Master’s in Journalism and Mass Communication from the Department of Mass Communication, Manasa Gangotri, University of Mysore, India. She was a recipient of the Gold Medal in Advertising.


A development journalist by training, Asma has worked for several national newspapers across various cities before moving to the development sector in the last decade. The majority of her work in this sector has been in the area of HIV/AIDS management. As a freelance media trainer, she worked with marginalised groups including sex workers, transgenders, LGBT communities and migrant workers. Setting up an edition of a newspaper from scratch and making it work in a small town has been a high point of her career as a journalist.


At IIHS, she is a part of the Knowledge Management, Behaviour Change and Communication and Project Communication team for the Tamil Nadu Urban Sanitation Support Program (TNUSSP) project. She is passionate about writing on social and political issues. Her interests include reading and writing, and the kindle is her constant companion.
