Harpreet Kaur has an  MA in Law and Governance from Azim Premji University, Bangalore. Her Master’s dissertation looked at how the complex structures aiding water distribution are instrumental in impeding the agency of disadvantaged sections of society from procuring safe and sufficient water thereby constituting structural violence. The focus was on understanding issues of distributive justice and burdens stemming from governance apathy and regressive water pricing methods.


At IIHS, she works with the Practice team and is part of the Collaborative Adaptation Research Initiative in Africa and Asia (CARIAA) project. She is especially engaging with research in rural and peri-urban areas. She believes that being a part of this project will provide a nuanced understanding of the push factors for migration into cities and the right to the city of migrants, a subject that she intends to pursue for higher studies.
