Vimala’s area of Interest is in Environmental Engineering: Solid waste Management, Water supply Engineering, Wastewater engineering and Air quality management. Her research during Post Graduation explores methods to enhance the rate of biodegradation of polyolefins using physical and biological means. (Polyolefins are Polyethylene and Ploypropylene). Two species of bacteria and fungi – were tested for their potential in utilizing polyolefins as their sole carbon source. The microbial species produced surface active compounds (Biosurfactants) that enhance the degradation process. She has two publications for her thesis.
At IIHS, she will be working as a junior specialist in the Engineering and Planning section for the TNUSSP project.
