A development journalist by training, Asma has worked for a several national newspapers across various cities, before moving into the development sector in the last decade. The major portion of her work in the development sector has been in the area of HIV/AIDS management. As a freelance media trainer she has worked with marginalized groups like sex workers, transgenders, LGBT communities and migrant workers etc.
Setting up an edition of a newspaper in a small town from scratch and making it work has been a high point of her career as a journalist. “We not only made our presence felt, but within one year were being counted as a major newspaper in the region,” she says.
At IIHS, she will be part of the Knowledge Management, Behaviour Change and Communication and Project Communication team for TNUSSP project.
Her interests include reading and writing. The kindle is her constant companion.
